In business, we often talk about impact. Big vision. Big results. Big moments.
But more often than not, impact is built in the small, consistent things we do every day.
Recently, we received a message from someone who had spent five days in a hospital with their family. They didn’t leave during that time. Their focus was entirely on being present for someone they loved.
During those days, they came to one of our cafés again and again. Breakfast, lunch, dinner. A simple rhythm in the middle of a very difficult season.
Afterward, they reached out to say thank you. Even after the person they were caring for eventually passed away.
That alone mattered.
But what stood out even more was what they asked next. They wanted to recognise the nurses who had cared for their father. They were looking for a way to give back.
That’s what happens when people feel cared for. It doesn’t stop with them. It multiplies.
There’s an admirable principle in that. People do what people see. When someone experiences kindness, they’re more likely to extend it to others. When they feel supported, they create support.
We may not work on the clinical side of healthcare, but we are part of that environment. Every interaction, every meal, every coffee is an opportunity to serve someone who may be going through one of the hardest moments of their life.
That’s a responsibility we don’t take lightly.
Our values guide us in that.
Kindness is how we treat every person who walks through our doors.
Dependability is showing up consistently, no matter the day or circumstance.
Comfort is creating a space where people can find even a brief moment of peace.
These may seem like simple things, but simple done well is powerful.
You never know what someone is carrying when they step up to the counter. But you can control how you show up for them.
These things can seem ordinary on the surface.
But in the right moment, they carry more meaning than we might expect.
And sometimes, they stay with people long after they leave.
